Caregiving is Not A Cookie Cut Process: Difficult Situations, High Conflict Relationships and Its Impact on You as a Caregiver
Sometimes our lives our already overwhelming and when the role of becoming a caregiver enters the picture often unexpectedly the additional responsibilities around difficult decision making and High Conflict Situations throw a wrench into previously established routines and we become “out of control.” An out of control person in a relationship is in fight, flight and fear mode and often develops toxic compensatory behavior that drives high conflict situations. That is true for ourselves as caregivers and often the loved one we care for. Sometimes, caregiving relationships devolve into “Power and Control” by one person or the other. When any relationship becomes imbalanced, one or both people can feel like they are losing control. The result can be anger or resentment. In this TYOF Caregiving series, we will talk about toxic caregiving habits that negatively affect caregiver and care receiver relationships from a shared perspective.
This workshop will discuss growing healthy relationships, understanding how to navigate more difficult caregiving situations and even deal with what might be toxic relationships and clinically lay out for the listener plans of actions to prevent such a situation or navigate the difficult situation more effectively.
