The WellMed Charitable Foundation is proud to partner with Wowzitude on the launch of Wowzitude Memory Travels, a new interactive livestream travel series designed for individuals with memory loss and the caregivers who support them.
The foundation has previously worked closely with Wowzitude, bringing weekly virtual travel tours to its 15 senior activity centers and the Virtual Senior Center. With the launch of these new dementia-friendly tours, the foundation and the Caregiver SOS program will offer first access to members and caregivers.
Each Memory Travels experience includes:
To ensure each tour is dementia-friendly, the WCF created a specialized training curriculum covering compassionate communication techniques, sensory engagement activities, caregiver-inclusive facilitation, real-time adaptation based on participant needs, and dementia-stage awareness.
The Wowzitude Trip-Kits were redesigned by Caregiver SOS specialists to include simplified language, sensory-friendly activities and guided discussion prompts. This caregiver-inclusive approach supports meaningful shared moments between caregivers and care recipients, while also providing natural respite for caregivers.
“Wowzitude Memory Travels is a first-of-its kind program that will be a new type of respite for caregivers and open the world to people living with memory loss. The WellMed Charitable Foundation is proud to bring our expertise in evidence-based aging, caregiving and dementia care to the design of this guide training program, and to extend our longstanding Wowzitude partnership into this innovative space. When we combine the joy of a shared travel experience with dementia-friendly facilitation for every tour, we create something rare: programming that is fun, emotionally meaningful and grounded in best practices”, said Carol Zernial, Executive Director, WellMed Charitable Foundation.
Individuals and caregiver support groups may also register directly for the pilot program by contacting WCF at wellmedgives@wellmed.net to be added to the waitlist.
