Taking off your Mask
Caregiver Teleconnection sessions are one hour learning sessions that can be done via Zoom or over the phone for caregivers of older persons. Experts from around the country share information important to caregiving. Caregivers will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as hear from other caregivers.
Our sessions are geared for the family members taking care of a loved one over the age of 60. Professionals are also welcome to participate as well.
Happy Halloween. It’s the time to don a mask and escape to a fantasy persona! Once a year, society says we can have fun becoming anybody we want, but ourselves. We feel safe behind that mask, or safe behind that new persona.” We can hide our facial expressions, our feelings and even ourselves. For one night everyone sees that we are truly “OK.” Actually, it is a wonderful holiday to enjoy ourselves. But not such an enjoyable lifestyle strategy.
But, do you know what? It’s really “ OK not to be OK.” It’s OK to be our own authentic selves If you think about it, lots of us wear masks to hide our fears or keep people from truly seeing us and all our flaws. You grab your mask out of the fear that you will be rejected, so you don’t allow anyone to get close to you. You want everyone to think you’ve got it all together. You end up concentrating on the exterior more than the interior. On the surface, you look great, but you’d never want others to know of some of the struggles you experience, so you reach for your mask. What if, we never had to do this and it was just amazing to be ourselves anytime, anywhere and all the time.
Join Dr. Jamie to learn how or when you find yourself hiding your true self? What would it look like for you to live openly? And, what are the obstacles to taking off our mask? What are the benefits?
You don’t have to be somebody you are not. What if the key to truly enjoying life was to simply be yourself and not be concerned about what you perceive might be your flaws. We are all perfectly imperfect. You no longer have to be afraid of what others would think if they truly knew you. This means we no longer have to conceal our true identity from others.
Fear should never be a stop sign for your life. Don’t let your fears determine your destiny. Take a leap of faith that will enable you to overcome your fears. Join us in developing a plan to simply be yourself with everyone, any place and especially with those you love. You can enjoy Halloween this month but for one day only.
