Disaster Preparedness for Caregivers: What to Know Now

September is National Preparedness Month, whose focus this year is ‘Helping Older Adults Prepare for Disasters’. Planning is a key to making through all kinds of disasters which affect seniors, vulnerable populations, and caregivers uniquely. This session will outline key preparedness tips for caregivers to maintain safety during natural disasters, weather events, and power outages.

Elliot Montgomery Sklar, PhD and Lucy Barylak, MSW
Dr. Elliot Montgomery Sklar is a public health professional with vast experience in managing health programs and initiatives. With over a decade of practice in supporting the health of the public through academic work, research and service to communities across the Americas, Dr. Sklar shares his passion and expertise in support of diverse caregivers and the complex issues they face. Lucy Barylak, MSW, is a Social Gerontology Consultant with West-Central Montreal Health in Montreal, Canada. Lucy is a renowned expert in caregiving having won the Queen’s Jubilee Award twice, presented by the Canadian Homecare Association. She has also been a family caregiver for her mother for many years.
