23 Charities Receive Nearly $124,000 From Annual WellMed Employee Fundraiser

The WellMed Charitable Foundation has contributed over $3 million to the San Antonio community.

The WellMed Charitable Foundation was established in 2006 by Dr. George Rapier III, a noted geriatrician who is also the Chairman of the Board. The Foundation is a non-profit 501(C)3 organization that supports seniors and their caregivers in our community with a special emphasis on wellness, prevention, and living with chronic illness.

Thanks For Making The 2014 Run For Seniors A Success!

Thanks to everyone who turned out to support the WellMed Charitable Foundation at the 2014 Run for Seniors on Saturday, May 10 at Woodlawn Lake Park in San Antonio, TX.



Hundreds of people of all ages, including a large contingent of older runners and walkers, came out for a day of fitness and fun. Thanks to San Antonio City Councilman Cris Medina for joining us and helping to get things started by singing the national anthem. And thanks to our honorary chair Tony Fama, host and managing editor of 50PlusPrime: The TV News Magazine For Boomers, and Miss Bexar County Katie Rivera for leading a spirited Zumba class.

WellMed Employee GIVE Campaign Raises Record $780,000 For Charities

More than two dozen non-profit groups will benefit from donations totaling more than $780,000 thanks to the generosity of WellMed providers and staff who contributed to the most successful GIVE campaign ever. The WellMed Charitable Foundation GIVE (Generous Individuals Value Everyone) program started in 2008 as a way for WellMed employees to give back to the communities they serve. READ MORE

WCF, WellMed Honored With Philanthropy Award

AGE of Central Texas honored the WellMed Charitable Foundation (WCF) and WellMed Medical Management at its 20th Annual AGE Awards Dinner at The Driskill Hotel in Austin.

AGE recognized outstanding achievements by individuals and organizations whose leadership, accomplishments, and contributions had a significant impact on the quality of life for aging adults and their caregivers in Central Texas. The 2014 Philanthropy Award was presented to the WellMed Charitable Foundation (WCF) and WellMed Medical Management.

WCF, Adult Protective Services Receive Major Elder Abuse Grant

Nearly $1 million in federal funds will help educate more than 40,000 Texas seniors about reducing their risk for elder abuse, and will train their family doctors on how to identify potential victims.

The US Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a $907,000 grant to the Texas Department of Family Protective Services, in partnership with the WellMed Charitable Foundation, the Benjamin Rose Institute on Aging, and the Elder Justice Coalition. The grant, among the first awarded as part of the Elder Justice Act of 2010, will fund an elder abuse prevention and intervention initiative at WellMed clinics in five Texas markets. READ MORE
