Center Manager

Valerie Castillo earned a BA in Sociology with a minor in Philosophy at Old Dominion University. She later earned a MA in Sociology with an emphasis in race relations and family studies at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Eventually, she returned to Texas to complete graduate studies at the University of Texas Austin, including studying issues related to aging.

Valerie has over 20 years of experience overseeing the administration of community outreach centers and providing leadership to the members and for the activities at the center. Prior to her current role, she worked as Director of the University Outreach Center-Austin, a Texas A&M University and University of Texas at Austin education collaborative, designed to motivate and better prepare middle and high school students, along with their families to navigate the college admissions process. Whether working with youth or the elderly, her personal and professional commitment remains to help people empower themselves to improve their emotional, social and physical wellbeing and to age and live well.
