For many older adults, the senior activity center is more than a place to gather; it’s a place to make a difference. Across our 14 senior activity centers, members volunteer their time, talents and friendly smiles to create a welcoming environment for all.
Two members recognized by the City of San Antonio are Rose Ramos of the Doris Griffin Senior Activity Center and Judy Brock of the Alicia Trevino Lopez Senior Center. Ramos joined Griffin shortly after it opened, became active in programs, and volunteered extensively. From supporting events, food distribution, tours and the ukulele class to helping lead major celebrations such as the 10-year anniversary and 2025 Hispanic Heritage Month. Brock, a dedicated member for more than 12 years, is known for her warm spirit and key role in the meal program, assisting with food distribution and welcoming members with a cup of morning coffee, making her a cherished part of the Lopez center.
Other centers, including CrossRoads and Cisneros, also celebrated volunteers and recognized their hard work and dedication with breakfast, nachos, “sip and paint” and certificates with pins as a token of appreciation for their hard work. Thanks to these member volunteers, senior activity centers continue to be places where older adults strengthen community and show that making a difference has no age limit.
