Barry J. Jacobs, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist, family therapist, and a Principal in the Philadelphia office of Health Management Associates, a national healthcare consulting firm. He is the author or co-author of

three books on family caregiving—The Emotional Survival Guide for Caregivers (Guilford, 2006), AARP Meditations for Caregivers (Hachette, 2016), and the forthcoming The AARP Caregiver Answer Book (Guilford, 2025)–and has written a self-help column for family caregivers for AARP.org since 2014. He has also been a family caregiver for his mother and stepfather with dementia and his father with cancer
