One year ago, the WellMed Charitable Foundation opened its newest senior activity center in Brownsville, Texas. Today, the center celebrates its first anniversary and its role in helping 1,000 older adults stay active in the community.
Since opening, the Brownsville center has become a thriving spot, serving an average of 130 members daily. From bingo and dance classes to arts and crafts and educational seminars, the center offers a variety of activities designed to keep members engaged, active and connected.
In addition to activities, the center provides free meals to members every day. Over the past year, the team has served more than 12,000 meals, ensuring members have access to nutritious food while enjoying social time with friends.
Center staff member Jose Raya shared what this achievement means to the team
“Having 1,000 members join us in our inaugural year fills the whole team with pride and gratitude. It’s a powerful reminder of the positive changes we’ve inspired and the sense of community we’ve built by improving lives and creating a space where our members truly thrive,” Raya said.
