The WellMed Charitable Foundation senior center in Austin recently celebrated it’s one year anniversary in a new location and 12th anniversary since opening. This year was extra special because of a thoughtful member who named the WellMed Charitable Foundation in her will after her passing in late 2023.
Cecilia Yeo joined the senior center in 2014 and attended regularly both in-person and online. With her closest relatives living in California, it seemed Cecilia adopted the WellMed Charitable Foundation as her family 1,700 miles away in Austin, TX. Melissa Kavanagh, the fitness advisor at the center, remembers Cecilia as quiet and kind. Her friends at the center remember she loved to dance and often helped when other members were struggling. All were shocked and saddened by the news of her sudden passing last fall.
Then Cecilia surprised us all. The foundation received a call from an estate lawyer with news that Ms. Yeo had named the WellMed Charitable Foundation in her will with a donation totaling $111,000. Cecilia left no instructions for her gift other than a humble request that her senior center family celebrate life with her favorite class, line dancing.
The center happily obliged and renamed the exercise room in her honor so that the celebration can continue in perpetuity. The Yeo Exercise room will be the host of many line-dances in honor of Cecilia, our angel investor.
