 WCF supports Uvalde

By on October 21st, 2022

The WellMed Charitable Foundation has donated $445,000 to charities providing ongoing mental health support for those affected by the Uvalde tragedy. The chosen organizations all have a track record of service either within the Uvalde community or in helping communities recover from trauma over the long term:

The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas specializes in counseling and therapy for children who have suffered a loss or trauma. The organization immediately deployed counseling staff to the Uvalde area and plan to establish a permanent program to support the long-term needs of the community.

Community Health Development, Inc. is an Uvalde-based Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that has local roots in supporting the medical and mental health needs of the community.  Funds are being used to support volunteer therapists from all over the country who are in Uvalde helping respond to the needs of the community.

A donation to the Uvalde Strong Fund at the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country will assist additional local charities who are responding to the recovery needs of the larger community.

The total raised includes funds contributed by employees plus match from UnitedHealth Group, WellMed and Dr. George Rapier.   Thank you to all who made this significant gift possible for Uvalde.
