The WellMed Charitable Foundation is pleased to announce the release of the 2022 National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers. This report was developed by the US Department of Health and Human Services, and serves as a roadmap for federal, state and local agencies to take action to support the country’s 53 million family caregivers. It highlights nearly 350 actions the federal government will take to support family caregivers in the coming year and more than 150 actions other levels of government and the private sector can adopt to build a support system for family caregivers.
The strategy was developed jointly by the advisory councils established by the Recognize, Assist, Include, Support, and Engage (RAISE) Family Caregivers Act and the Supporting Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (SGRG) Act, with extensive input from family caregivers, the people they support and other stakeholders. Carol Zernial, the Executive Director of the WellMed Charitable Foundation, was honored to serve on the RAISE Advisory Council and participate in the development of the plan.
“It is now up to us as professionals and caregivers to work to ensure this plan is implemented, so caregivers have financial security, emotional support, health care, respite and time to live and enjoy their own lives in a meaningful way,” Ms. Zernial said.
