Dear Lucy: Addiction Awareness for Caregivers Caring for a Loved One

Join Lucy Barylak, MSW as she addresses the topic of addiction in caregiving. She will discuss the signs and symptoms of addiction. Caregivers will be provided with tools to identify potential problems of substance abuse.

Lucy Barylak, MSW and Jenna Labell, MA
Lucy Barylak, MSW, is a Social Gerontology Consultant with West-Central Montreal Health in Montreal, Canada. Lucy is a renowned expert in caregiving having won the Queen’s Jubilee Award twice, presented by the Canadian Homecare Association. She has also been a family caregiver for her mother for many years. Jenna Labell received her Master’s degree (M.A.) in Counselling Psychology from McGill University in 2017 and is currently pursuing her Doctorate degree (Psy.D) in Psychology at the University of Montreal. Jenna’s clinical experience includes working with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, obsessive-compulsive tendencies, substance dependence, eating disorders, as well as career counselling with a student body. Prior to pursuing her doctoral degree, Jenna worked in the field of addiction as an Addiction’s Counsellor in an outpatient rehabilitation center. She engaged in individual addictions counselling with both adolescents and adults suffering from substance dependence including drugs and alcohol, as well as behavioral addictions such as cyber-addiction, gambling, and sex addiction. Additionally, she ran psychoeducational groups with this clientele and worked as an in-house Addictions Counsellor at two local high schools in the city of Montreal.
