Dallas senior center member turns 104

By on March 24th, 2025

When I think of Mr. John McCarver, all I can say is he was sharper than anyone you will ever meet. Each day he walked into the center as clean as he could be in a fresh button-down shirt and hat.

He would often jokingly fuss on his way in that his daughter made him late for work at “the center.” If you ever dared to question the 104-year-old, his response would be “I didn’t live to be this age for nothing.”

Mr. McCarver demonstrated exceptional friendliness, motivation, amusement, entertainment, and was, without a doubt, known as king of the domino table. He consistently contributed to the success of our organization through his display of marvelous wisdom.

Mr. McCarver was a valued member of the center since it opened six years ago. He was very active at the age of 104, participating in all of the programs we have to offer. After serving his nation in the United States Army during World War II, he returned for a successful career that spanned 40 years with Roadway Express.

The Redbird Center was able to celebrate what is now his final birthday. It was a true honor since he had not had any previous big birthday parties. Mr. McCarver expressed his wonderful words of gratitude that all of us will remember and treasure.
