When we are grieving, we can feel completely overwhelmed with sadness, overwhelmed with missing the beloved person who has gone. We long for them. We think we will not survive. April Moxley, LMSW
April received her Bachelor Degree in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University in 1999 and her Masters of Social Work degree in 2003 from Our Lady of the Lake University as well. She became licensed in 2005 and has practiced Social Work for over 20 years. She worked for the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services as a legal worker for 6 years. While there she provided on-going services to children and families in substitute care. Through the years she acquired group experience, as a group facilitator for the CREST group, a group for relatives and kinship caregivers to children in Child Protective custody. For the past 18 years, April has worked as a Hospice Social Worker and has served for the last six years as the Bereavement Services Manager for VITAS Healthcare. She has taken much care providing care to adults and children on Hospice. Providing resources, support, education and case planning to patients and their families. She continues to educate, assist and support patients and their families with end of life decisions in the home, long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, in-patient units and hospitals. As the Bereavement Manager she is honored to provide on-going grief support to VITAS family’s for over a year after their loved ones death. She facilitates numerous Caregiver and Grief Support Groups throughout the Nation and in-person groups in San Antonio. In addition, she co-leads the We Honor Veterans program at VITAS, provides Community Outreach for End of Life planning and supervises Social Work Interns. In 2012, 2018 and 2020 she was honored to accept VITAS' Social Worker of the year. In her personal life, she has a blessed plate. She has been married for 23 years to her high school sweetheart and enjoys family time with her husband and three beautiful children, ages 18, 15 and 11.
