April is National Poetry Month, a time to celebrate creativity, storytelling and the power of words. At our senior centers, poetry brings members together to reflect and share meaningful moments.
One of our members at the Roy Florez Senior Activity Center in Miami, Florida recently shared a heartfelt poem inspired by her experiences at the center. Originally written in Spanish, the poem below has been translated to reflect her gratitude and appreciation for the staff, programs, and sense of community she has found there.
Translation:
In love, warmth, kindness,
contagious joy,
and a spirit of service,
You are the greatest.
What can I say about the snacks
and the delicious coffee,
and everything else that goes
with all the little things.
And the classes that keep
a healthy body and mind,
bingo, dominoes,
and all the other activities.
Effective and diligent,
you carry out the mission:
to help and support us
in every way possible.
The Roy Florez team
is unparalleled.
thank you very, very much
from the bottom of my heart.
