WellMed and the WellMed Charitable Foundation supported the 40th Anniversary of The Texas Ramp Project, a non-profit partner that serves older adults across the state.
Focused on restoring independence for seniors who face mobility issues within their own home, the Texas Ramp Project builds wheelchair ramps to those who cannot afford one but desperately need one to maintain independence. Working with a network of volunteers, the organization builds ramps all over the state, frequently for WellMed patients.
“WellMed has built hundreds of ramps over the years,” says Mark Denzin, Executive Director of TRP, “They are a critical part of our mission. Without volunteers, we simply could not do it.”
Recently, WellMed went beyond the typical ramp build to present a donation of $40 gift cards to the client and a thank you award to the Texas Ramp Project build leaders (also volunteers). The build was also celebrated with a celebratory toast of sparkling cider and cupcakes. The builds caught the attention of local media in McAllen, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Austin.
In addition to volunteerism, the WellMed Charitable Foundation has provided $100,000 in funding towards the mission of TRP.
“Older adults prefer to remain in their own homes as long as possible.” says Carol Zernial, Executive Director of the WellMed Charitable Foundation, “We come together as volunteers to make those homes accessible and help older adults thrive in our communities. We are privileged to support the mission of Texas Ramp Project and congratulate them on their 40th anniversary serving Texans.”
Funding for the Texas Ramp Project and other organizations is made possible by employees and business partners who contribute financially to the WellMed Charitable Foundation.
“I want to say thank you to the generous employees of WellMed for making this funding possible for us and so many other important organizations serving seniors,” said Denzin.
