SUMMARY:Aging in the 21st Century: What Caregivers Need to Know Now
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic revealed many problems in our healthcare system\, especially in long term care settings. Many seniors and their families consider the option of long-term care at some point\, but the pandemic has made us rethink those options. In addition to long-term care\, some are considering aging-in-place\, or living with relatives if they can. Our sessions will explore these options and will offer tips and resources that support healthy aging for all in a post-pandemic world. \nHow has COVID-19 changed our view on long-term care facilities? What led to the increased mortality of seniors in long-term care facilities? What are the lessons learned? \n

SUMMARY:Dementia Diagnosis and Treatment
DESCRIPTION:Dementia is a scary term and is often misunderstood. Dementia isn’t defined as a specific disease. It is generally described as a group of symptoms which affect cognitive and social abilities to the extent that they interfere with the functions of daily living. Dementia is usually confused with Alzheimer’s because it is the most common type; however\, there are symptoms of dementia that are caused by other conditions – some of which may even be reversible. Nestor H. Praderio\, MD will review the dementia diagnosis process and explain the types of dementia including symptoms and stages. He will also outline intervention and treatment options. \n

SUMMARY:Online - Educate\, Energize and Empower our Emotional Intelligence as Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:In life we though that IQ\, Intelligence Quotient was the standard bearer on how well we did in life. This is a myth that has been handed down for years. There are brilliant people who never get to accomplish their goals in life no matter how intelligence they are. Overtime\, we came to understand that much more was need. Today we call that Emotional Intelligence. Emotional Intelligence enables success in a much more powerful manner. Emotional Intelligence enables family and professional caregivers to achieve a higher level of understanding\, and consequently offer a better degree of care Caregivers with high EI are not immune to the negative aspects of their profession or the challenges of dealing with family members but we have come to see that with the skills of Emotional Intelligence they have greater resilience in terms of the day-to-day need to cope with difficult issues and the physical and emotional pain. Caregivers with higher EI were able to avoid compassion fatigue and were more successful experiencing “compassion satisfaction.” Join Dr Jamie today in understanding how we can accomplish this need to become emotionally intelligent in ways that can assist our lives and our loved ones accomplish so much more. \n
