SUMMARY:Online-Understanding the Challenging Behaviors of Loved Ones with Dementia
DESCRIPTION:Because they are confused and often fearful\, individuals with moderate to severe dementia often have behavioral challenges\, such as lack of initiative\, agitation\, paranoid thinking\, and even aggression. Sometimes family caregivers experience these behaviors personally as if they are somehow disturbing or mistreating their loved ones. In this Caregiver Teleconnections with Barry J. SUMMARY:Online-Understanding The Fight\, Flight\, Freeze and yes\, Fawn Response for a Happier and Healthier Life
DESCRIPTION:All of us have some after-effects from our childhood Adverse Experiences and understand well how it feels to be continually on the lookout for danger. Caregivers assume that this hypervigilance feeling of being unsafe or defensiveness follows us no matter where they are in life. When we perceive a threat\, our nervous system calls on many of our organs and systems to get ready for the “4 F” responses\, since it has been our default response since childhood. \nIf our nervous system gets hyper-aroused\, the body suffers as the person is always ready to react. This can damage a person’s ability to calm down after being triggered by something that barely resembles a threat. The implications for caregivers when left unaddressed is more anxiety\, lower self-esteem and yes our own compromised health. Why do we think many caregivers pass on before their loved ones? \nJoin us this month to learn about our nervous system and how to learn vital techniques how to aid our body in its’ own self-regulation for a healthier and happier caregiver experience and of course our lives in the process. \nhttps://www.wellmedcharitablefoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Understanding-the-4-Fs-10-22-2021.mp4

SUMMARY:Caregivers of America and Self-Care
DESCRIPTION:There is one generation that has been consistently defined by its obsessions: avocado toast\, memes\, Harry Potter … and self-care. They are often perceived as entitled snowflakes\, but millennials might be the generation of emotional intelligence. In 2015\, according to the Pew Research Center\, more millennials reported making personal improvement commitments than any generation before them. They spend twice as much as boomers on self-care essentials such as workout regimens\, diet plans\, life coaching\, therapy and apps to improve their personal well-being. They’ve even created self-care Twitter bots. \nBut why is there a generational divide in taking care of yourself? \nFollowing WWII\, people around the world settled down to enjoy peace and prosperity – and raise families. From 1946 to 1964\, the largest generation in history was created – the Baby Boomers.   These are disproportionately America’s Caregivers today. \nOur Caregiver SOS ESRT Presentation is aimed at those from this generation who believe we need to “tough things out” out of their control\, such as aging\, Covid\, national politics and other things out of their control.  Through this presentation we can offer attendees the awareness and necessary understanding to develop a meaningful “resiliency plan” that addresses caregiving their children needs\, their loved ones concerns and especially their own health and wellness in the dynamic years to come. \n  \nhttps://www.wellmedcharitablefoundation.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/Caregivers-of-America-and-Self-Care-9-20-21.mp4

SUMMARY:Aging in America Will Never be the Same: Family dynamics: When is it absolutely necessary for a caregiver to place their loved one?
DESCRIPTION:In the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic\, aging in America may never be the same. The death toll in nursing homes and long-term care facilities has revealed how unprepared our health systems are to protect our most vulnerable citizens. \nMany seniors and their families consider the option of long-term care at some point. COVID-19 has made many people re-think those options. In addition to long-term care\, some are considering aging-in-place\, or living with relatives if they can. Our sessions will explore the pros and cons of all of the options. We will discuss problems and solutions and identify resources that support all of these options for healthy aging. \nWhat should seniors consider and explore before deciding to live with relatives? What should relatives know?
