SUMMARY:Self-Care and Mindfulness
DESCRIPTION:Caregiver Teleconnection sessions are one hour learning sessions that can be done via Zoom or over the phone for caregivers of older persons. Experts from around the country share information important to caregiving. Caregivers will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as hear from other caregivers. \nOur sessions are geared for the family members taking care of a loved one over the age of 60. Professionals are also welcome to participate as well. \nSelf-care means all the ways that family caregivers can manage their stress and wind down from the demands of caregiving. You read about it and you hear about it\, but far too often we have to be reminded about taking care of our needs. When we are tired or stressed\, we don’t know where to start\, even if we give ourselves the time. Find something that works for you\, but learn a variety of techniques. **Sponsored by the North Central Texas Caregiver Teleconnection** \n

SUMMARY:Healing From a Toxic Relationship: Recovery May Be Tough…. But YOU are Too!
\nWhether it is a romantic one\, within a family\, or a friendship\, a toxic relationship typically pulls you in a cycle of abuse where you doubt yourself\, always feel guilty\, and desperately seek reconciliation. These relationships can diminish your self-esteem and seriously damage your mental health. Most of us have been involved in a toxic relationship at one time or another in our lifetimes. We all have been in the company of others who did not act for the greater good of anyone besides themselves. \nToxicity comes in all forms: name-calling\, physical abuse\, lying\, gossip and all the internal turmoil that results from being in an unhealthy relationship. Whether it is a personal relationship involving a family member\, lover or a friend\, or a professional relationship involving a co-worker or a boss\, toxic relationships can damage and leave long-lasting effects. Toxic relationships can happen to anyone\, so don’t beat yourself up for engaging in an unhealthy relationship. Instead\, it is possible to go from Hell to Heaven through understanding the transformational process \nIn Part 2 of our Series “Saying Goodbye to a Toxic relationship\, Dr. Jamie summarizes part one and then lays out an understandable roadmap and coaching plan for your journey of healing and return back to the person you once were. By acknowledging your experience\, you can start to understand what drives your feelings of fear and anxiety\, and change your perspective over time. The beginning of the end starts with a very small step: coming to realize what CPTSD is and that the world may not be the dark\, fearful\, overwhelming and dread-filled place we had always assumed it had to be. \nAs we say\, recovery might be tough ……..…but you are too! \n

SUMMARY:Caregivers: Time to Say Goodbye! How to Eliminate Toxic People From Your Life
DESCRIPTION:Caregiver Teleconnection sessions are one hour learning sessions that can be done via Zoom or over the phone for caregivers of older persons. Experts from around the country share information important to caregiving. Caregivers will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as hear from other caregivers. \nOur sessions are geared for the family members taking care of a loved one over the age of 60. Professionals are also welcome to participate as well. \nThere’s an old myth that frogs will pull down other frogs trying to escape a pot of boiling water. That’s likely the stuff of folklore\, but the dynamic is real: In everyone’s life\, there will always be people who will resist\, threaten and sabotage the possibility of self-improvement. There are always people in our lives who stand in the way of our self-improvement. As caregivers\, we all want to hit the “Easy Button” as we have to consolidate our energies for :the marathon” ahead. \nStress reduction is all about our ability to emotionally self-regulate but realize any improvement must be done in healthy relationships and families. \nThe general group of people — whom sometimes we can safely call “toxic” — might resent your progress for any number of reasons. For caregivers\, these people are literally “energy vampires” at a time when we need to consolidate and enrich our energies. Perhaps they think you’ll no longer be in their life if you improve too much. Maybe they feel like your improvement exposes their own shortcomings. Or perhaps they’re just threatened by the idea of change. These “people” may be close or long distant caregivers or they may literally be in our communities we seek peace and serenity from. \nJoin Dr. Jamie as he join hands with you to facilitate your growth\, self-improvement and mental health by offering an important strategy for your emotional wellbeing and life’s journey. \n

Caregivers will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as hear from other caregivers. \nOur sessions are geared for the family members taking care of a loved one over the age of 60. This combined with Behavioral Disturbances of Dementia results in even bigger challenges for Caregivers. The degree of the associated symptoms and the level of disruption of family life as well as the safety of the patient often leads to decisions regarding long-term care. \nDr. Praderio will outline the most common behavioral disturbances associated with dementia such as Agitation\, both Verbal Aggression (obscenities\, accusation\, etc.) and Physical Aggression (pacing\, biting\, hitting)\, Wandering\, Hoarding\, Sleep Disturbances\, Sexual Inhibition\, Hallucinations\, and others. Nestor H. Praderio\, M.D. will lead a candid discussion on the potential for escalating dangers associated with behavioral problems as well as the havoc it may create for caregiver burnout and the overall welfare of the patient. The session will conclude with a question and answer period. \n
