SUMMARY:Emotional Intelligence Institute: Caregiving through the Lens of Self Awareness
DESCRIPTION:Caregiver Teleconnection sessions are one hour learning sessions that can be done via Zoom or over the phone for caregivers of older persons. Experts from around the country share information important to caregiving. Caregivers will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as hear from other caregivers. \nOur sessions are geared for the family members taking care of a loved one over the age of 60. Professionals are also welcome to participate as well. \nMost of us go through life running on autopilot. We make it through the day – and we don’t wonder why our day went the way it did. We don’t examine how we felt or the actions we took. We don’t practice self-awareness. \nSelf-awareness is the cornerstone of emotional intelligence. It allows you to improve every area of your life by taking responsibility for your emotions\, thoughts and actions. It can increase confidence\, creativity and decision-making skills. It can improve your relationships and your career. \nBut what is self-awareness really? It isn’t a personality trait or a magical spell. It’s something you can develop with the right tools and a powerful desire. \nJoin Dr. Jamie as he dispels self-awareness and helps you open up to your full potential and provide a fresh perspective of how you see your life and those you care for. \n

DESCRIPTION:How many times have you said yes to a request when deep down you either did not have time to do it or did not want to do it? How many times have you put others’ needs before your own? Successful caregiving involves balancing your loved one’s needs and other family members’ needs with your own needs.  Join Dr. Oliver as she shares strategies on how to learn to say “no” and how you can become a recovered “people-pleaser.” \n

SUMMARY:Caregiving is Not A Cookie Cut Process: Difficult Situations\, High Conflict Relationships and Its Impact on You as a Caregiver
DESCRIPTION:Sometimes our lives our already overwhelming and when the role of becoming a caregiver enters the picture often unexpectedly the additional responsibilities around difficult decision making and High Conflict Situations throw a wrench into previously established routines and we become “out of control.” An out of control person in a relationship is in fight\, flight and fear mode and often develops toxic compensatory behavior that drives high conflict situations. That is true for ourselves as caregivers and often the loved one we care for. Sometimes\, caregiving relationships devolve into “Power and Control” by one person or the other. When any relationship becomes imbalanced\, one or both people can feel like they are losing control. The result can be anger or resentment. In this TYOF Caregiving series\, we will talk about toxic caregiving habits that negatively affect caregiver and care receiver relationships from a shared perspective. \nThis workshop will discuss growing healthy relationships\, understanding how to navigate more difficult caregiving situations and even deal with what might be toxic relationships and clinically lay out for the listener plans of actions to prevent such a situation or navigate the difficult situation more effectively. \n
