DESCRIPTION:Advance care planning\, also known as end-of-life and healthcare planning\, empowers people to make decisions about the care they want to receive when they can no longer speak for themselves. Adults of any age can begin advance care planning although most people do so in later stages of life. Having clear decision-making capacity is required to make these decisions and sign legal documents like a medical or statutory durable power of attorney\, living will\, or a do not resuscitate (DNR) order. But what happens when someone hasn’t completed any advance care plans & no longer has capacity to do so? This situation presents ethical dilemmas for family and friend care partners as they are tasked with trying to decide what their person would have wanted.
