SUMMARY:Dementia or Alzheimer’s - Understanding the Difference
DESCRIPTION:Caregiver Teleconnection sessions are one hour learning sessions that can be done via Zoom or over the phone for caregivers of older persons. Experts from around the country share information important to caregiving. Caregivers will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as hear from other caregivers. \nOur sessions are geared for the family members taking care of a loved one over the age of 60. Professionals are also welcome to participate as well. \nWhen a diagnosis of Dementia is issued people usually assume that it is Alzheimer’s and often reference the two interchangeably. It is widely believed that Dementia and Alzheimer’s are the same thing. They are not! While Alzheimer’s may be the most common and widely recognized form of Dementia – it is not the only type. Nestor H. Praderio\, M.D. will explain how Dementia refers to an umbrella term of symptoms which impact a person’s ability to function on their own. He will also outline how Dementia\, in some instances may be reversed\, however\, Alzheimer’s is an incurable disease. The session will conclude following a Q&A period. \n
